Teresa Anne Mullin was born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 19, 1969. Teresa had a happy and healthy early childhood until at the age of four she was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. From that day on, Teresa received aerosol and physical therapy daily and took up to 65 pills a day. She was hospitalized dozens of times throughout her childhood.

Teresa was an enthusiastic participant in many activities and attended the local grammar school. At the age of eleven, she decided she wanted to attend Harvard. She chose to attend Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. After three years of high school, she was awarded her high school diploma in May of 1986. She entered Harvard the following September and graduated in June, 1990. During her high school and college years, she continued to struggle with her CF while fulfilling her dreams of working on the schools' newspapers.

Teresa applied for a lung transplant in the United States but was denied because the surgeon thought that she was too healthy. She chose to pursue the possibility of a lung transplant in England. Teresa moved to England in November of 1990. Her plan was to find a job as a journalist, apply for citizenship, and hopefully receive a lung transplant.

Teresa died of cystic fibrosis on May 9, 1991 at Royal Brompton Hospital in London only hours before she was scheduled to talk with the transplant surgeon.

During her years at Exeter and Harvard, Teresa wrote a book, The Stones Applaud, about growing up with cystic fibrosis.
